Albert Corral fired a 2-under 70 to finish second for the second straight week on Monday and SBCC took third in WSC No. 6 at Santa Maria Country Club.
It was a season-best for Corral, a sophomore from San Marcos High. Jesse Ferris shot 73, Donald Carano 76 and Cameron Tennant 78 for the Vaqueros (20-16), who moved within one game of third-place Bakersfield.
Canyons took first with 367 strokes on a windy, rainy day. Ventura was second at 376, followed by SBCC (379), Bakersfield (380) and Glendale (381). Canyons leads the WSC with a 34-2 record, six games ahead of Ventura (28-8).
“There were a couple of good downpours, especially early,” said Vaquero coach Chuck Melendez. “The course was in good shape. Our guys were a little disappointed with their scores.
“We still haven’t completely put it together but we’re making strides in that direction.”
There are two WSC meets in three days next week — No. 7, hosted by Glendale at Oakmont CC on Monday and No. 8, hosted by Citrus at Marshall Canyon on Wednesday.
