Chargers hang on Huthsing’s every move

Dos Pueblos’ baseball team had its ups and downs at the Spring Break Tournament in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, splitting its first two games at the three-day event.

The Chargers put together an eight-run seventh inning to clobber St. Bonaventure 13-5 in the first game before they ran into Colin Welmon and the Foothill Knights, who defeated DP 11-0.

Joe Huthsing had a big first game for Dos Pueblos. The sophomore caught the first five innings before coming from behind the plate to pitch out of a jam in the sixth inning and record the victory. Huthsing added another dimension at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

“It was an all-around big performance by Joe – catching, pitching and hitting,” said Chargers head coach Nate Mendoza.

Josh Paden’s three-run home run in the seventh inning was the big blow for Dos Pueblos, which opened up a six-run lead.

Corey Micheel reached base five times and scored twice while Michael Spiritosanto knocked in three runs on two doubles. Steven Reveles recorded two hits, one being a two-run round-tripper.

The Foothill game was a different story as Welmon limited Dos Pueblos to one hit compared to 16 against the Seraphs.

The Chargers (5-8) will try their luck again on Thursday in a night game against Golden Valley.
