It may have been a team effort, but Dos Pueblos’ Emily Rose Williams did her part and more on Saturday at Mt. SAC, scoring points in a variety of events to lead the Charger girls to a team title.
Williams was the overall winner of the 100-meter freestyle, posting a personal best time of 52.47. Williams was second in the 50-meter and was the anchor on the 200-freestyle relay team that finished second while earning an automatic CIF qualifying time.
The most significant race of the day came in the 400-freestyle relay. With Williams swimming the first leg, the Chargers broke the meet record in a time of 3:34.06. Kiley Neushul, Michelle Dockendorf and Janelle Nguyen joined Williams in the feat.
Neushul swam her best races of the season in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke to earn automatically qualify for CIF in both events. Nguyen also recorded two individual thirds in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The Chargers scored 561 team points. Glendora was the next-best after DP with 481.
“Needless to say, it was a great day,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Leslie Wiggins-Roth. “I’m really impressed with the team enthusiasm the girls displayed in racing the relays, combining their individual efforts to make a big showing at a very competitive meet.”
