Dos Pueblos’ boys swim team torpedoed to a title at the Long Beach Wilson Invitational on Friday, finishing the meet well ahead of second-place finisher Los Alamitos.
The Chargers, who totaled 102 points to the Griffins’ 82, did well in the relays thanks to victories in the medley, 4×50 and 4×100 races.
Derek Shoemaker’s strong close in the medley gave DP a CIF consideration time of 1:41.69. Shoemaker was finishing for Darrell Eacret, Christian Terpening and Kevin Cappon.
Theo Coine, Josh Pighetti and Nolan Gardner were all on the two winning freestyle teams, joined by Terpening in the 50 and Eacret in the 100. The first group touched in 1:29.86 while the 4×100 time was 3:15.75.
The Charger girls were third-best at the invitational and came home with a collection of automatic CIF qualifying times. Michelle Dockendorf and Janelle Nguyen recorded a pair of victories in individual events as well as top-three finishes in the 200-medley and 400-free relays.
Dockendorf took the 200 IM and the 100 breast stroke while Nguyen was tops in the 100-meter butterfly and 500-meter freestyle. Emily Rose Williams was on both the aforementioned relay teams and added top-three results in the 50 and 100 free.
Dos Pueblos takes the great day into next week’s Channel League matchup with Santa Barbara at the Elings Aquatic Center.
