Charger bats finally come up big

Dos Pueblos’ bats came alive to record a season-high 14 hits on Wednesday, taking the Chargers to a 9-1 victory over Damonte Ranch in the final game of the Best of the West Tournament.

The Chargers finished in third-place of the Silver Bracket, which would be 11th overall out of 24 teams.

After averaging less than two runs during the tournament’s first four games, DP erupted for nine runs thanks to the double-digit hit parade.

All of Dos Pueblos’ 14 hits were singles with Ashlynd Williams, Hannah Harris and Chloe Madill each collecting three each. Madill knocked in three runs on her hits while Jordan Roberts recorded two RBIs and two hits. Dos Pueblos piled six singles on top of each other in the fourth inning to move five runs across in the inning.

Williams pitched a complete game in her second start of the season and was credited with the win. Williams only allowed three hits and an unearned run.

Dos Pueblos (5-9) finishes the three-day tournament with a 3-2 record. Damonte Ranch, from Reno, Nevada, suffered only its second loss of the season and is 12-2 overall.

“We wanted to gel and now we’re gelling,” said DP head coach Donn Roberts, whose team returns to Channel League play on Friday at San Marcos.
