It wasn’t a win, but taking mighty Oaks Christian to five sets was pretty impressive for the young Bishop Diego boys volleyball team. The Cardinals almost pulled out a big Tri-Valley League upset on the road Tuesday, but the Lions ended up on top, 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12.
Johnny Brand had 16 kills with 13 digs and seven blocks, while Spencer Shull added 16 kills and five blocks.
“We played pretty well, and I think we surprised them,” said coach Joe Reiken. “It was definitely our best match of the season.”
Robert Connolly added 12 digs, and James Fazio dished out 37 assists. Bishop, now 3-5 in the TVL, hosts Malibu on Thursday at the Brickhouse. The Cardinals need to beat the Sharks to force a play-in game with them.
