Santa Barbara High’s boys golf team interrupted Buena’s perfect season on Tuesday, sending the Bulldogs to their first loss in a 368-395 decision at Montecito Country Club.
The Channel League loss lowers Buena’s record to 10-1, 3-1. The victory improves the Dons to 11-2, 3-1 two days before a rematch with San Marcos, which is responsible for Santa Barbara’s one league loss.
“The goal is always to win league,” said Dons head coach James Bedard, who was thrilled with his team’s consistent play against the Bulldogs.
Jack Perry’s even-par round of 71 was good for medalist honors while teammate Shane Lebow was one shot off the lead at 72. Sean Searls carded a 74, Mickey Kirby a 75 and Spencer Mikles and John Baur recorded 76s to complete the Dons’ round.
Buena’s Nick Gajefski(75) was Buena’s only player underneath 76.
Thursday’s Royals-Dons clash is being hosted at Montecito Country Club.
