Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar, a standout midfielder at Santa Barbara High and City College in the 1990s, has been selected as one of the top 25 players of the decade in the professional United Soccer League’s First Division.
Alcaraz-Cuellar is ranked 15th on the list determined by USLsoccer.com. Gabriel Gervais, a defender for the former Montreal Impact, was named the No. 1 player of the decade.

Known for his game savvy and craftiness on the ball, Alcaraz-Cuellar was a star for the Portland Timbers. He led the USL First Division in assists during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and he’s Portland’s all-time leader in assists with 44.
He finished his USL playing career in 2008 with the Seattle Sounders and helped the club to a First Division championship in 2007.
Alcaraz-Cuellar, who turned 33 on Tuesday (April 6) is presently working as a coach and trainer with FC Alliance youth soccer club in Washington.
Alcaraz-Cuellar helped Santa Barbara High to a CIF Division 2 championship in 1995 and City College to the state community college title in 1996.
He played two years at Fresno State before starting his professional career with the San Diego Flash in 2001.
