Yingling, San Marcos batter Channel Islands

San Marcos pitcher Corinne Yingling made sure to give herself a head start on Friday, belting a 3-run homer in the first inning as the Royals softball team mercy-ruled visiting Channel Islands 10-0.

“We just hit the ball real well in general. We had our best round of hitting so far in practice yesterday and it carried over to the game,” said coach Alex Sheldon.

Four Royals — Chelsea Friedman, Jenise Fretz, Yingling and Natalie Williams — had multi-hit games. Fretz has had multiple hits in all four of San Marcos’ games this season.

Up 9-0 in the seventh, Jocelyn Flattery belted an RBI triple that ended the game.

“I think the girls have just put in a lot of hard work. Hitting is contagious, so you get a couple of people going and it rubs off on everyone else,” said Sheldon.

Channel League for the Royals (3-1) begins on the road at Ventura on Tuesday.

“It’ll be a good test for us to see how we hit their pitching,” said Sheldon.

Channel Islands is now 0-2 on the season.
