Warriors cause Royals to worry

Carpinteria’s softball team rallied from three runs down in the seventh inning on Monday, surprising San Marcos with an 8-5 nine-inning decision in favor of the Warriors.

The Royals took a 5-1 lead after five innings, but Myriah Diaz’s two-run double in the top of the seventh capped a four-run comeback by the Warriors and forced extra innings.

Royals shortstop Hannah Ball takes a throw while Carpinteria's Myriah Diaz comes in sliding.

Catalina Maldonado hurled a complete game for Carpinteria, which won the game with three runs in the top of the ninth.

“We gave them an opportunity and they took advantage of it,” said Royals head coach Alex Sheldon, who hopes his team takes this as a lesson to play the game from start to finish.
