Warrior girls triumph in first TVL meet

Carpinteria hosted St. Bonaventure and La Reina at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, claiming a girls Tri-Valley League win over the Seraphs.

La Reina was the overall winner on the girls side, besting Carpinteria 84-74. Carpinteria’s boys were topped 78-57 by St. Bonaventure.

Shelby Dunlap won the 300-meter hurdles along with the high jump and placed second in two other individual events, the 100 hurdle and 100 sprint.

Natalie Hipple posted a victory in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet,  four and a half inches. Hipple also finished second in the discus and was fourth in the long jump. Caitlin Wallace recorded two second-place finishes in the high jump and long jump while Sally Lam and Kelsey Drain went 1-2 in the pole vault.

On the boys side, the Warriors’ Travis Doop collected a bevy of points with victories in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles and pole vault. Teammate Cody Labrum was just as fruitful, pulling the trifecta in the long jump, high jump and triple jump.

John Bustillos claimed the shot put with a heave of almost 42 feet and was second in the discus.
