STANFORD – Scott Smith became the latest Gaucho to set a school record, breaking the 10,000m record at the Stanford Invitational.
Smith’s time was 28:35.71, which was good for second place in Section 1 of the men’s races. He became the first Gaucho to break the 29 minute barrier in the 10k, as the previous record was a 29:09.85 set by Josh Horton in 2001. In addition to holding the 10,000m record, Smith sits second on the 1500m list and third on the 5000m list.
Danielle Domenichelli came close to setting a UCSB record in the women’s 10,000m, but she ended up about six seconds short. Her time was 33:29.65, which placed her 11th in Section 1 of the women’s races. Her time was also a personal best of nearly three minutes, which moves her up to second on the all-time list behind Stephanie Rothstein’s 2007 time of 33:23.33.
UCSB also had entires in the 5000m races at Stanford. Results from the women’s races included Amanda Moreno running 16:53.62 in Section 2, Crystal Reed running a new personal best of 17:00.03 in Section 3, and Katie Voigtlander running 17:23.54 in Section 4.
In the men’s 5000m, Julian DeRubira placed seventh in Section 3 with a time of 14:16.96.
