Jesse Ferris and Cameron Tennant turned in 2-over-par 74s, guiding the SBCC men’s golf team to a third-place finish in WSC No. 4 at the SCGA Course in Murrieta.
Canyons and Bakersfield tied for first at even-par 360 and Canyons won the sixth-man scorecard playoff to improve to 22-2 in conference. Ventura and Bakersfield are tied for second at 18-6, followed by the Vaqueros at 11-13.
SBCC tied Ventura at 375 and won the scorecard playoff for third, thanks to Donald Carano’s 79. Tennant recorded a season-best 74 on a day when all six Vaqueros shot between 74 and 79. Andy Clayton carded a 75 and Albert Corral and Mike Levine shot 76.
“Overall I was pleased with our play but I still think we can do better,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “We showed improvement on a day when Canyons and Bakersfield both shot lights-out. It was important to play a round on this course because this is going to be the site of the Southern Cal Regional.”
SBCC will play in WSC No. 5 on Monday at Saticoy CC in Ventura.
