Kailey Snyder homered for the second straight day on Friday as SBCC split a pair of softball games on the first day of the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach.
Amanda Sharp went 4-for-4 with a double in the second game. Her two-run single in the third put the Vaqueros up 2-0. Sara Gazzaniga and Jeana Carrillo (4-1) combined on a five-hitter with Carrillo giving up one run on one hit over the last three innings.
“We switched a few people around and scattered the slap hitters around the lineup,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We’re still struggling with the mental game and we need to work on getting timely hits.”
The Vaqueros had just four hits against Pasadena. They took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Joan Cannon and a sacrifice fly by Janelle Wong. Pasadena scored twice in the bottom of the fifth with the game-winner coming home on a double play. Joan Cannon caught a long fly ball in center for the second out and the Lancers’ scored the go-ahead run before she threw out a runner at third to end the inning.
The Vaqueros will take on the East L.A.-Chaffey winner at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. If they win, they’ll play on Sunday morning. If they lose, they’ll play again at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
