SBCC recorded four track victories on Friday, including three in the field events, in a WSC North meet at Ventura College. The men placed third in the six-team field with 90 1/2 points while the women were fifth.
Stephen Scrafford was first in the 3000m (9:06.26) and fourth in the 1500m (4:08.48) while Ronnie Dudley took first in the javelin (166-9) and fifth in the long jump (21-4). Johan Lindqvist was first in the triple jump (45-8) and Matt Organista placed second in the 3000 (9:12.38) and fifth in the 1500 (4:10.73).
In the women’s meet, Paige Turner was first in the high jump (4-10) and Carino Celio took second in the triple jump (32-2) and fourth in the long jump (15-1). Erika Schaeffer was second in the 3000m (11:07.51) and fourth in the 1500m (5:10.85).
“Our field event athletes had a great day with three wins and picked up a lot of points for the team,” said coach Scott Fickerson. “The distance crew put in a lot of miles for their points. It was a lot of fun to watch Stephen and Matt go 1-2 in the 3000m. Erika tried to duplicate the 3000 win, leading most of the way, but the 1500m took a little too much out of her.
“Now it’s time to get ready to shine in front of the home crowd at Easter Relays so we can go into Spring Break on a good note.”
The Vaqueros will host the 72nd Easter Relays Community College meet on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the high school portion set for Saturday.
