SBCC gave No. 2 Mt. San Antonio all it could handle on Wednesday night before dropping a 2-0 nonconference softball decision in Walnut. Liliana Caughman and Kailey Snyder combined on a seven-hitter against the defending state champions.
The Vaqueros (9-7) turned two double plays and didn’t commit an error. The Mounties (16-6) scored both their runs in the fifth inning.
“We played really well, the defense was solid on both sides,” said SBCC coach Paula Congleton. “We left eight on base, though, and had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.”
Laura Cannon had a first-inning double for the Vaqueros, who return to WSC action on Thursday with a 2:30 p.m. home game against L.A. Pierce.
