SBCC offense tamed by Thompson

Two days after scoring 25 runs in a doubleheader sweep, SBCC’s bats were quieted by Cuesta’s Rachel Thompson, who pitched a four-hitter on Thursday in a 6-2 WSC softball victory at San Luis Obispo.

Freshman Kailey Snyder held the Cougars to six hits and struck out eight. Amanda Sharp went 2-3 with an RBI double in the sixth for the Vaqueros (14-9, 4-4), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

“We had some mental and physical errors,” said coach Paula Congleton.

Laura Cannon staked SBCC to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single that scored Lisa Zeitlin in the first.

Santa Barbara will host the Bash at the Beach this weekend at Pershing Park. The Vaqueros will take on El Camino and Golden West at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Saddleback and L.A. Valley at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday.
