SBCC drops first WSC match in six tries

SBCC and Ventura squared off in a battle of men’s tennis unbeatens on Tuesday at Pershing Park and the Pirates came away with a 7-2 victory. The Vaqueros fell to 6-5 on the season and 5-1 in WSC play.

Nikolay Ivanov rallied for a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 12-10 (12-point tiebreaker) win at No. 1 singles and also earned the Vaqueros’ other point in doubles with Regis Fastrez.

“Ventura is the best team in the league and it’s good to see how we stack up against them,” said coach Ryan Heinberg. “I think they’re beatable and we get to play them again in two weeks.”

The Vaqueros are off until April 6 when they travel to L.A. Pierce. The rematch with the Pirates will take place on April 8 at Ventura.
