SBCC bats fall asleep in Glendale

SBCC’s seemingly invincible offense came crashing to a halt on Tuesday in a doubleheader loss at Glendale. The Vaquero baseball squad lost 8-2 and 5-0 in a pair of nonconference games at Stengel Field.

“We just didn’t have it today on offense,” noted coach Teddy Warrecker. “In the second game, we only got one leadoff hitter on. We’re too talented a group to have days like this.”

Santa Barbara (6-6) had a season-low four hits in the nightcap and suffered its first shutout. The Vaqueros entered the twinbill averaging 8.4 runs per game.

Steven Keller’s two-run double tied the opener 2-2 in the fifth innning. Greg Selarz had his best start of the year, pitching into the seventh and giving up just two runs with eight strikeouts. Glendale (8-4) scored five runs in the eighth thanks to a pair of SBCC errors.

SBCC was the home team in the opener since it was a makeup of a game previously scheduled for Santa Barbara.

The Vaqueros travel to L.A. Mission on Thursday at 2 p.m.
