Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team was one win away from capturing a Channel League title this season, finishing with a 6-2 record that included wins over traditional powers Buena and Ventura. Five Dons were named to all-league teams as a result, led by Tess Emerson, Rebecca Griffin and Jackie Kerns on the first team.
Buena’s Kacie Sowell was named MVP for taking the Bulldogs to a 7-1 record and the league championship. Sowell scored a team-high 17 points in Buena’s 49-42 victory over the Dons on February 10 that clinched the title. David Guenther was named Coach of the Year.
Ivette Gil was put on the second team and Siondra Pererya and Riley Lloyd were honorable mentions.
