Royals victory is very grande

San Marcos was on its game Tuesday night and it showed. The Royals swept visiting Arroyo Grande 25-20, 28-26, 25-19 to improve to 2-1 on the season.

“They were a much better team than Arcadia, who we went 5 with, but we played really well tonight,” said Royals head coach Roger Kuntz. “I thought our athletiscm really came out on top.”

Sophomore libero Kyle Estabrooks did a good job of avoiding the Arroyo Grande kill, tallying 22 digs in just three games. Middle Josh Guild was a force at the net along with Jackson Kunz. Guild, in only his second year playing the sport, had five solo blocks and four kills – all of them timely according to Kuntz.

Kunz led San Marcos’ offense with 14 kills.

The Royals will compete in this weekend’s Arcadia Tournament  before opening up league Thursday vs. Santa Barbara.
