San Marcos’ boys tennis team won its fifth game of the season without a loss on Friday, riding the strength of its doubles teams, as it has all season long, to a 10-8 victory over Santa Ynez.
The Royals went 8-1 in doubles sets with Jackson Mann-Scott Messier and Travis Enholm-Jackson Foster sweeping three sets each. Nik Kilpelainen and Garrett Timmons went 2-1, dropping their first set of the season. The teams of Kilpelainen-Timmons and Mann-Messier are both 14-1 this season as the Royals are 5-0.
Petar Jivkov and Garrett Hazarian each won a set in singles to give San Marcos a majority of the sets.
“Garrett (Hazarian) has really improved his serve and backhand in recent weeks and hits a heavy forehand. He did a great job today reducing his errors and making his opponents play another point,” said Royals head coach Jarrod Bradley.
The Royals have their Channel League opener on Tuesday against defending league champion Santa Barbara.
