Royals on top in opener

San Marcos’ boys tennis team started its season with a win it didn’t get last year, reversing last year’s result in a 10-8 non-league victory over Camarillo on Tuesday.

The Royals swept all nine doubles sets, with their six doubles players all being returning players. Freshman Petar Jivkov pulled out a win on the singles side to push San Marcos into the win column.

Nik Kilpelainen and Garrett Timmons were an especially deadly duo, giving up only two games in three sets. Jackson Mann/Scott Messier and Jackson Foster/Parker Funk also breezed in doubles.

San Marcos hosts Lompoc on Thursday.

It was the season opener for both teams.
