North Ranch Country Club hosted the Oak Park Invitational on Monday, attracting 28 schools in a team competition that only scores three golfers.
Calabasas came out on top followed by Mira Costa. San Marcos came in fifth overall, led by Dodge Ward’s 77. Ward’s round was good for 11th individually.
Chaminade’s Nick Thomas and Loyola’s Greg London tallied the day’s lowest rounds, both carding two-over 73s in windy conditions.
San Marcos’ other two scorers were John Etsell and Scott Bradford, each recording matching 83s. The Royals’ team total of 243 was nine-strokes off Calabasas.
The Royals opens up Channel League play on Tuesday hosting defending league champion Santa Barbara at Sandpiper Golf Club.
“Even though SB is the favorite on paper I have great feelings about tomorrow’s match and think it will be much closer than most think,” said Royals head coach Dave Siordia.
