Royals, Dons spend successful Saturday in Ventura

Nearly 2,000 athletes made for a busy day at the Ventura Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, and Santa Barbara and San Marcos each got a handful of highlight performances.

Shane Rowen won the boys triple jump for San Marcos with a mark of 43 feet, 1.75 inches while JP Dodson was third in the 400-meters with a time of 53.2 seconds. Benny Kirkwood took third in the high jump by clearing six feet, and Randee Harvey was 12th in the 100-meters with a time of 11.49 seconds.

COMPLETE RESULTS

On the girls side, Kaylin Koopmans was fourth in the 100, crossing the line in 13.04 seconds, and also took fourth in the 200 at 26.88 seconds. Lexi Spaulding was second in the 400 with an impressive 63.69-second mark, and Kallie Hill was ninth in the discus with a heave of 83 feet, seven inches.

University of Vermont-bound decathlete Tyler Parent took second in the boys discus for Santa Barbara with a throw of 140 feet, 11 inches. Briggs Deardorff anchored the fourth-place 4×800 relay team with a personal-best split of 2:02.30. Jackie Kerns took fifth in the girls 400 in 64.56 seconds.
