Troy Ritter took the biggest battle to win the war for the Laguna Blanca boys tennis team on Thursday. Ritter’s tiebreak-victory in the match’s final set gave the Owls a 10-8 triumph over Villanova.
“It was definitely a pressure situation and he came through,” said Owls head coach Trevor Thorpe.
The doubles team of Benji and Peter Sorensen rallied from 5-1 down in their first set to win 7-5. From there, the duo coasted to a pair of 6-1 victories to sweep its three sets. Justin Shand and Ian Carradine teamed to take three more sets in doubles and Alex Louden-Eddie Conk tallied two more wins for Laguna.
“We definitely set the tone for the rest of the season today,” Thorpe said.
Laguna Blanca will see if can sustain momentum on Monday with a match at Carpinteria.
