Nico Pollero beat 5-star recruit Brendan McClain as the Santa Barbara High boys tennis team handed Ventura its first loss of the season, 12-6, on Tuesday. Chase Melton went 2-0 at the top singles spot for the Dons, including a win over highly ranked Sean Levesque.
“Chase is starting to play better and better, which I’m really pleased about,” said coach Steve Geremia.
In doubles, the Dons (5-0, 3-0 Channel League) dominated by going 8-1 with undefeated days turned in by by Dan Diaz/Jim Vaughan, Chris Grant/Logan Liddell and Chris Williams/Matt Baum.
“It was a very big day for Santa Barbara considering Ventura was undefeated,” said Geremia.
