Make that two big-time wins in two days.
Just 24 hours after defeating Ventura, the Santa Barbara High boys tennis team headed down to North Hollywood and took care of perennial-power Harvard-Westlake, 12-6.
Nico Pollero and Chase Melton each went 3-0 in singles play, with Melton giving up just three games in his sets. Sammer Garcia was 1-2, but his victory was a back-breaker over top Wolverine Jackson Frons.
“It wasn’t long ago when we broke their 100-game win streak. It’s always important for us to beat Harvard-Westlake, because we’ve had some of our toughest losses ever against them,” said coach Steve Geremia. “We weren’t intimidated by them at all. We went right after them.”
It was 9-3 by the end of the second round, meaning the match was already decided.
