Westmont Women’s Tennis’ four-game trip to the desert came to a strange ending today at the Plaza Racquet Club in Palm Springs. After completing the singles matches against #4 Point Loma Nazarene, the Warriors and Sea Lions began to play their doubles matches. But the host facility decided they needed the courts and asked the two teams to leave before the Golden State Athletic Conference Match could be completed. Point Loma Nazarene (10-1, 7-1 GSAC) was credited with a 6-0 win after sweeping #14 Westmont (3-10, 3-6 GSAC) in singles.
Cassie Strange, returning to her number one singles role for the first time since sustaining an ankle injury on Friday, was defeated by Kristin Strimple 6-0, 6-1. Ilissa Mathews had the closest match of the day but fell on the number two court 7-5, 6-1 to Ashley Litchfield. At number three, Tara Yekrang lost to Rachel Owens 6-2, 6-0.
Point Loma won on courts four, five and six without giving up a single game. At number four, Jessica Kwan defeated Sarah Louie and at number five, Kirsten Steinhauer defeated Sarah Chhum. Wileen Chiu won at number six, defeating Hanna Day.
The Warriors will not be back in action until Friday, March 26 when they travel to Cal State Fullerton to take on Hope International.
