Perry’s in the red, Dons end up in second

Jack Perry is coming home from the Father Joe Barry Masters with a red blazer for winning the individual title, but the Santa Barbara boys golf team fell six strokes short of Christian Brothers, falling 388-394 in the 18-team event on Sacramento.

Perry followed up Friday’s even-par 72 with a 74 while Shane Lebow fired a 73. Ray Gerow turned in an 80, John Baur and 81, Mickey Kirby an 86 and Sean Searls an 87.

“There were 20-mph winds with 40-mph gusts, and we didn’t handle it well,” said coach James Bedard. “We had the lead overnight, and we thought if we played moderately well we would win, but we just weren’t deep enough today.”

The Dons open league play against San Marcos on Tuesday.
