Perry’s 71, Gerow’s driver highlight Dons’ win

Northwestern-bound Jack Perry fired an even-par 71 at Montecito Country Club on Thursday as the Santa Barbara High boys golf team picked up a 374-469 over Hart.

Ray Gerow followed up with a 73 and also had the shot of the day, hitting a driver off the deck to within three feet for an eagle on a par 5. Although it didn’t factor in the match, coach James Bedard also notched an eagle after sinking a 170-yarder from the fairway on the 16th.

Perry shot even on the front and back, finishing with five birdies and five bogeys.

“It was our first home match, and I know the guys were pumped up about putting up a good score,” said Bedard.

Friday’s 5-way up at the Alisal River Course should provide a nice preseason look at how local teams are shaping up. The Dons (2-1) will go up against San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, Santa Ynez and Clovis West.
