Notre Dame slips away from San Marcos, 4-3

David Kim had two doubles and two RBIs while also pitching six solid innings on the mound, but the San Marcos baseball team left runners on second and third in the seventh in a 4-3 loss at Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks on Saturday.

Shane Wieland had two hits, stole two bases and scored two runs on the day. The Royals had an early lead after he walked in the first inning, then stole second and scored on a Kim double. The Royals went up 2-0 in the third, but Notre Dame scored three runs in the next two frames before getting the game-winner in the fifth.

Kim gave up a pair of lead-off doubles on the day but was able to battle out of danger both times. He retired the first six batters he faced in the game.

“They were a very aggressive team at the plate and they were good athletes,” said San Marcos coach Rob Crawford. “We just didn’t execute well when we had opportunities in the last two innings… We’re right there with the toughest of the tough right now though.”

San Marcos (2-3) plays at Oak Park on Monday before opening Channel League play against Santa Barbara on Friday.
