Cate’s boys tennis team squeezed its first victory of the season out of San Luis Obispo on Tuesday, edging the Tigers on games after a 9-9 tie in sets.
Cate held a 77-74 advantage in games at the end of the day, but needed Rohit Goswamy and Ahmed Bou-Rabbee to win their final set in order to pull into the 9-9 stalemate.
It was the first match in over two weeks for the Rams, who returned from spring break with a No. 4 ranking in CIF Division IV but an 0-3 record.
“We played with a little more intensity today,” thought Rams head coach Bob Bonning.
Blake Mackall and Gregory Mak combined as Cate’s most formidabble doubles team, sweeping their sets 6-2, 6-1, 6-0.
The Rams open up the defense of their Condor League title on Wednesday against Laguna Blanca at the Municipal Courts.
