Hannah McDaniel won the girls high jump at the Camarillo Invitation on Saturday, clearing 5-6 as one of many highlights on a great day for the San Marcos track team.
“We kicked some butt,” said coach Marilyn Hantgin.
McDaniel also took fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.45 seconds and was part of San Marcos’ winning 4×400 relay team, which clocked in at four minutes, 12 seconds. Her teammates were Elysia Hodges, Lexi Spaulding and Allie Kranyk.
Hantgin said that McDaniel’s mark in the high jump is probably in the state’s top 10.
Hodges also excelled in her individual events, taking second in the 100 with an impressive time of 12.58 seconds, then taking third in the 200 at 26.34.
On the boys side, Philip David was seventh in the 800 at 2:02.21, while teammate Evan Bradford was eighth after crossing the line just 0.36 seconds later. It was the best times of the year for both runners.
Shane Rowan won the triple jump with a 43-foot effort, and Nate Reed took fourth with a mark of 41 feet. Benny Kirkwood took sixth in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 16.21 seconds.
