San Marcos’ Hannah McDaniel cleared five feet, eight inches in the high jump on Thursday, giving her one of the best leaps in the state so far this season.
McDaniel didn’t stop there, winning the 400 in 60.2 seconds and taking part in the Royals’ victory in the 4×400 relay. The 5-8 jump is tied for second in the state this year.
Both the Royals boys and girls teams defeated Buena.
“It was really exciting,” said San Marcos head coach Marylin Hantgin, citing a lot of personal bests on top of McDaniel’s.
Elyssa Hodges was a four-time winner, taking the 100 and 200 yard sprints individually as well as being a part of the Royals’ winning 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
The boys finished strong to claim their victory. San Marcos went 1-2-3 in the high and long jump and won the 4×400 relay. Shane Rowan won took the long jump while Bennie Kirkwood was tops in the high jump. Kirkwood also won the 100 hurdles in a personal best time.
Evan Bradford scorched the mile earlier in the meet in 4:37(1st).
