May touches just short of All-American mark

Senior Anne Marie May finished the 50 freestyle in 22.52 seconds during the event’s preliminaries on Thursday morning, the first day of the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships being held at Purdue’s Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Her time was tied as the 20th best during the prelims. May failed to make the top-16, who automatically earn All-American honors, by just .05 seconds. Her time was .20 seconds away from making the event’s final, which will be swam on Thursday evening.

May will complete her collegiate career on Saturday when she competes in the 100 freestyle. The Carmel native entered the meet seeded 26th in the 100 free. Her best time this season in the event is 49.21 seconds.
