The CIF-ss D-II champion Dons played as the ultimate team, dangerous from every position. That didn’t stop CIF from singling out Santa Barbara’s Jesse Gonzalez and Jose Alfaro as the season’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year recipients.
The pair led the Dons to their sixth southern section title and a 29-0-1 record. Santa Barbara finished up with a 31-1-1 record after losing their first and final game 1-0 to Corona del Mar in the CIF SoCal Regional Final.
Gonzalez was tops on the Dons with 22 goals and 17 assists while Alfaro anchored a defense that recorded 21 shutouts in 33 games.
Dons head coach Todd Heil brought in the Coach of the Year distinction to complete the tri-fecta.
Dos Pueblos’ Eduardo Cortez and Rodrigo Perez joined Santa Barbara’s Christian Pardo and Marcos Lopez on the Division-II first team.
The Chargers enjoyed one of the most successful boys soccer seasons in school history, reaching CIF title games in the D-I CIF SoCal Regional and the D-II CIF-ss final against the Dons at Harder Stadium.
Stanford Spivey and Justo Alvarado took two spots on the second team to make it five All-CIF selections for Santa Barbara. Dos Pueblos’ Branden Tangel also made the second team.
Carpinteria and Cate, both playoff teams, did not have any All-CIF representatives. .
