SBCC’s Jesse Ferris placed third with a 1-over 73 on Monday in WSC No. 1 but his teammates had a tougher time with a fifth-place finish in the seven-team field at Alisal Ranch in Solvang.
Albert Corral and Andy Clayton shot 79 while Andy Clayton carded an 80. Nick Quintanilla of Glendale was the medalist at 70. Canyons claimed the team title by three strokes at 378. Santa Barbara shot 392.
“It was an ugly day,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “We just didn’t play well and it hurts because this is our home match. We got off to a rocky start. Hopefully we won’t do this again.”
The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 2 on Monday at Bakersfield.
