DP’s Witchey signs on with California Baptist

Kristen Witchey, a star defender for the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team, has signed on to continue her career with California Baptist, one of the top programs in the NAIA.

That means she’ll be back in town to face Westmont in Golden State Athletic Conference action next season. California Baptist’s coach, Kristen St. Clair, was a 4-time NAIA All-American for Westmont. Her first two seasons with California Baptist were the most successful in the school’s history, as the Lancers racked up 29 wins. They finished 17-5-1 this past season and reached the second round of the NAIA Tournament in St. Clair’s third year in charge of the program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kristen Witchey to the CBU Soccer family,” said St. Clair. “Kristen is an industrious and versatile defender with strong leadership qualities and a dominant ball-winner. She is a strong 1-v-1 defender, good distributor and dangerous on set pieces.

“Kristen’s skill set will complement our returning players quite well and we look for her to have an immediate impact. Our goal every year at CBU is to play for and win the National Championship, and we certainly believe Kristen will help the team to accomplish that goal.”

Witchey expressed similar enthusiasm about joining the Lancers.

“I am extremely excited to continue my soccer career and make an impact at Cal Baptist University. I wouldn’t have reached this accomplishment if it weren’t for my amazing coaches along the way,” she said.

“I want to thank Cam Camerena for his expertise and development of my fundamental skills, JP Verhees who furthered my knowledge of soccer and increased my technical and tactical skills, and finally Molly Imel who made my dream of playing competitive, collegiate soccer a reality.”
