The Dos Pueblos boys JV tennis team’s strong doubles pairings proved to be unbeatable for Bishop Diego on Friday, as the Cardinals fell 13-5.
“Today, our strength was in our doubles,” said DP JV head Coach Allison Golledge. “Our number one doubles team played really well today, but it’s hard to say that one player stood out from another. The scores were all pretty similar.”
The Chargers No. 1 doubles team of Zijad Marcus and Michael Bake went undefeated, sweeping all three of their sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1.
By the end of the second round, Dos Pueblos knew that it had secured the match after already collecting their 10 sets to win. Despite the second loss in the young season, Bishop head coach Ray Vazquez remains optimistic.
“We won league last year, and we have some tough teams this season, but our team is competitive. We are a very young freshman team, but sophomore singles player Mattew Grimes has taken some time off and is competing well in the No.1 spot,” he said.
Golledge said that the chances of the DP JV having a strong season are good because, “we are an experienced JV team with a total of thirteen seniors including our varsity team. Many of the players on our team could have moved up to varsity, but they haven’t.”
