Dons wind up fourth, Royals 11th on windy day

You won’t see a score of 404 win too many top-tier high school golf matches this year, but Great Oak High School did just that in the Harvard-Westlake Invitational with a one-stroke win over Mira Costa on Monday in extremely windy conditions at Saticoy Country Club.

Santa Barbara High, led by Jack Perry’s third-place round of 73, finished fourth  in the 16-team field with a score of 407 while San Marcos was tied for 11th at 422.

“The tournament featured some really good teams and was a great experience for what the CIF championship will be like,”said Dons coach James Bedard. “As a team, we need to really make sure that we grind it out for 18 holes to compete with the top teams.”

Sean Searls placed in the top-10 with a round of 77, while San Marcos’ top score was Dodge Ward’s 80.
