Dons finish Central Coast Tournament with 9-6 win

Collin Dewell picked up a win on the mound and also jacked a 2-run homer as the Santa Barbara High baseball team wrapped up the Central Coast Tournament with a 9-6 win over St. Joseph on Tuesday.

Six-foot-6 first baseman Trey Barrett started his first game on the mound and had some pressure taken off after the Dons scored three runs in the top of the first. He was rattled, however, after giving up a grand slam in the bottom of the inning.

“I think he was a little bit nervous starting out, but once he got that out of his system he was fine,” said assistant coach Mike Cooney.

Dewell took over in the sixth and pitched the final two innings, hitting his homer in the sixth to give the Dons (4-0-1) some breathing room.

Santa Barbara hosts San Marcos on Friday.
