It was a good day for Santa Barbara High’s younger swimmers, but host Harvard-Westlake overpowered the Dons on both the boys and girls side in their meet on Friday.
Arizona State-bound senior Karl Boscacci won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke for the Dons and freshman Evan Robertson took second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle. The Wolverines, however, dominated by a tally of 118-52.
It came down to the final relay on the girls’ side, with Harvard-Westlake edging Santa Barbara 66-64.
“We took a lot of second and thirds, but they just had about six really good girls that won most of the races,” said coach Mark Walsh.
Freshman Kelsey O’Brien won the 100 freestyle and took second in the 200 freestyle, while fellow freshman Sophie Trabucco won the 500 freestyle.
“We had good swims across the board, and our freshmen have been a nice surprise. We had big shoes to fill after Lolo (Blair) and Lindsay (Parrish) graduated last year, and they’ve stepped in and done a nice job,” said Walsh.
A big meet awaits on Friday, when the Dons will head to Goleta to face Dos Pueblos.
