Santa Barbara High’s boys golf team went to see the new flick “Brooklyn’s Finest” after finishing up play at the Father Joe Barry Masters in Sacramento on Friday.
According to coach James Bedard, it wasn’t very good.
“I do think we are Sacramento’s finest right now, though,” he said after the Dons took a 4-stroke lead heading into the second day of play at the 18-team event.
Jack Perry shot an even-par 72 and the Dons fired a 390 despite heavy rains that turned the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course into a swamp.
“It was raining so hard that there was water pooling on the greens. Shane Lebow had a 15-foot birdie putt and it ended up going four feet and stopping in a pool of water,” recalled Bedard. It’s tough because it was cold, it was wet and it’s hard to keep your focus.”
Lebow shot 78 while Sean Searls and Mickey Kirby were at 79. Ray Gerow shot 82 and John Baur had an 85. As of Thursday, Gerow is sporting a “lawnmower track” haircut on the back of his head and Lebow has a genuine mullett. Both are hoping it helps Santa Barbara win the prestigious title, which the Dons captured that last time the played in the event two years ago.
