Depleted DP falls to Spartans, 6-1

Missing seven starters due to SATs on Saturday, Dos Pueblos’ softball team couldn’t keep up with Division I’s Rio Mesa at the Suzanne Manlet Tournament, falling 6-1. It was Rio Mesa’s second win over Dos Pueblos of the young season.

Jordan Roberts went 3-for-3 with a triple and Hannah Harris struck out six with no walks, but the Spartans broke a scoreless tie by putting up four runs in the fourth inning. Facing a Division-I college-bound pitcher, the Chargers (0-3) managed to put runners in scoring position in all six innings but couldn’t convert more than once.

Ashlynd WIlliams came in to relieve Harris in the sixth and also had two hits, scoring DP’s only run.

“I’d never thought I’d say I was happy after a loss, but this was positive,” said coach Donn Roberts of the performance of his youngsters.

DP plays Cabrillo before opening Channel League play against Ventura on Friday.
