Cougars stick it to Chargers in sixth

Ventura’s baseball team broke a six-run sixth inning over Dos Pueblos’ head on Friday, knocking out the Chargers 8-4 in both teams’ Channel League opener.

Joe Huthsing started for the Chargers and was relieved by Bradley Tirador when he ran into trouble in the sixth inning, which included a 2-out, 2-run single from the Cougars’ Joe Trigiuero. Huthsing stayed in the game and belted a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning.

Ventura's six-run sixth was the difference at Scott O'Leary Field on Friday.

But the defending league champs finished with the loss, putting their record at 3-3, 0-1. Ventura is 3-3, 1-0.

Nick Griffith came a couple of outs from pitching a complete game to get the victory, allowing three runs with four strikeouts.
