Chivas USA will be without former UCSB star Danny Kennedy for Saturday’s 7 p.m. Major League Soccer preseason finale against the Houston Dynamo at Harder Stadium.
Kennedy, the goalkeeper on the Gauchos’ 2004 team that reached the NCAA College Cup final, is the player representative for Chivas USA and he is attending MLS labor talks in Washington D.C., a team spokesperson said. The players union and the league are trying to work out a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The players have threatened to strike if both sides can’t reach an agreement before the start of the regular season next week.
The old CBA expired last month.
In their previous preseason games, Chivas USA last week played the L.A. Galaxy to a 0-0 tie and beat Santa Barbara pro-am club team Durango 5-1.
Houston, a two-time MLS Cup champion, battled the San Jose Earthquakes to a 0-0 tie in San Francisco on Wednesday night.
Part of the proceeds from Saturday’s match will go to Direct Relief International to help aid their efforts for the earthquake victims in Haiti and Chile.
