Coach Tovi Eliasen wasn’t particularly impressed with the Dos Pueblos soccer team’s performance on Tuesday, but the Chargers are moving on nonetheless after a 1-0 victory at Stockdale in Bakersfield.
DP (16-6-7) will play at San Fernando High School (19-2-2) on Thursday in the semifinals of the Division I SoCal Regional Tournament.
“It was an ugly, ugly, ugly game,” said Eliasen. “We came out pretty flat all the way around. I can’t even attribute it to the 3-hour bus ride, because that was pretty comfortable.”
Regardless, Rodrigo Perez scored off of a Kenny Lara corner kick in the 67th minute to keep the season alive. Eliasen said that DP was lucky that Stockdale didn’t score in the first half.
“It was possibly a hangover from the high of playing in front of so many fans on Friday as well as simply trying to get yourself up on a freezing cold afternoon in Bakersfield,” he said.
Goalie Eric Katz had three saves in the shutout.
