Chargers get elusive first win in Saturday split

Hannah Harris struck out 10 in a 4-hitter on Saturday as the Dos Pueblos softball team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Burroughs 4-3 in the Susan Manlet Tournament down in Simi Valley.

Later in the day, the Chargers fell to Channel League foe Buena, 8-2, hampered by four errors that led to six unearned runs.

DP scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning against Burroughs. Alex McKernan hit a triple that was followed by three singles and a sacrifice as the Chargers batted around. Burroughs responded by scoring three in the sixth, but Harris held on by retiring the last four batters she faced, including strikeouts of the No. 2 and 3 hitters to close the game.

After averaging around 75 pitches per game this season, Harris tossed a whopping 122 against Burroughs. She also went 2-for-3, as did Chloe Madill. The duo drove in all of DP’s runs.

Ashlynd Williams got the start against the Bulldogs and allowed three hits through three innings. Buena, however, had a 7-0 lead thanks six unearned runs in the opening frames. JV call-up Alyssa Lewis came on in the fourth and pitched the rest of the game effectively.

Harris went 2-for-3 once again in the second game.
