Bishop Diego’s boys tennis team came close to pulling out a season-opening victory on Tuesday, falling to Oak Park 10-8.
“It was a competive match for our first game of the year and it was a lot more competetive than it was last year,” said Cardinals head coach Ray Vazquez, citing a 16-2 decision last season.
Nick Machis Jr. and Matthew Grimes kept the Cardinals in the match this year, each sweeping three sets in singles.
The Cardinals play Dos Pueblos’ JV team on Friday in their next action.
